Live View

The Nikon D70 does not provide live-view. You have two options for using this camera with Dragonframe:

Manual Lens to Avoid Flicker

To avoid flicker that can be caused by electronically controlled aperture lenses, please use a manual Nikon lens ('D' series). Learn More about Aperture Flicker

  1. Power your camera by AC power if possible.
    • - If you do use a battery, make sure it is fully charged.
    • - If you use AC power, remove the battery.
  2. Close any other applications that might connect to your camera.
    • - For macOS, Open Image Capture, select your camera, then in pop up area in lower-left select Connection camera opens: No application. (See Picture)
  3. Make sure Dropbox is not a client of the camera.
  4. You may need to quit Google Backup and Sync, since it can interfere with the camera even if you turn off syncing.
  5. If you have anti-virus software, white-list Dragonframe so that it may access your camera.
  6. Create a new scene or open an existing scene. (Dragonframe will not connect to your camera unless you have a scene open.)
  7. Set the Mode Dial to Manual (M).
  8. Set Auto Image Rotation to Off.
  9. If you use a Nikon digital lens, set Lens to Manual Focus and disable Vibration Reduction.
  10. You may need to remove the camera's memory card.
  11. Set USB Mode to PTP.
    The camera will not connect unless you do this.
  12. If you need to use a flash/strobe, you must set Silent Live View Photography to Off.
  13. Connect your camera to the computer with an appropriate USB cable.

Confirming the firmware version:

  • Turn on the Nikon D70
  • Press the MENU button and select Firmware Version from the setup menu.The camera’s firmware version will be displayed.
  • Turn off the Nikon D70

Basic Download and Nikon D70 Installation instructions for Windows and Macintosh:

  1. Download and expand the firmware files.(D70fw20.zip)
  2. Format an approved CF card in the camera (do not use a Microdrive card to perform this update).
  3. Connect Camera to computer (in MSC USB mode) or use a CF Card Reader (do not use a Lexar Jump Shot USB cable to perform this update).
  4. Copy to the top level of the card the downloaded “A firmware” file.
  5. Disconnect camera from computer.
  6. Update the firmware from the “Setup” menu.
  7. Follow the camera’s on-screen menus.
  8. Repeat steps 2 through 7 using the “B Firmware”, Re-format Card.
